Veteran Delhi leader and former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar passed away on Thursday. Sajjan Kumar once dominated Delhi politics. Sajjan Kumar went from being a municipal councillor to a three-time Lok Sabha MP and spent the last days of his life in Tihar Jail. Sajjan Kumar was serving a life sentence in Tihar Jail after being convicted in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. After his health deteriorated in jail, he was brought to Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Before stepping into politics, Sajjan Kumar ran a tea stall in Delhi, but his fortunes changed after he became close to Sanjay Gandhi, the son of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The 1984 riots rocked Congress and Delhi politics, but the times changed. Sajjan Kumar, a former MP, was born on September 23, 1945. Before entering politics, he ran a tea shop and a bakery business. Sajjan Kumar Singh Chaudhary played an important role in winning the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections. Sajjan Singh Chaudhary was associated with the Heera Nagar Municipal Corporation.
