Raja Bandyopadhyay, Asansol and Durgapur: The first phase of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections will begin on Thursday morning. A total of 152 seats in 16 districts of the state will go to the polls tomorrow. The high-voltage list includes nine very important assembly constituencies in Paschim Bardhaman district. The biggest festival of democracy is round the corner. The administrative activity in Asansol and Durgapur has been at its peak since Wednesday morning. According to the District Election Office, a total of three Distribution-cum-Receiving Centres (DCRCs) have been set up to conduct the polls in nine constituencies of Paschim Bardhaman. Two of these centres - Asansol Dhadka Polytechnic College and Asansol Engineering College - are in Asansol. Another one has been set up in Durgapur. The rush of voters in these centres has been noticeable since Wednesday morning. Long queues of EVMs, VVPATs and other high-level polling officials are busy in the polling stations.
