West Bengal Government Withdraws 'Banga Vibhushan' Award from BJP MP Anant Maharaj Over Controversial Remarks

The West Bengal government has decided to withdraw the'Banga Vibhushan'award from BJP Rajya Sabha MP Anant Maharaj alias Nagendra Roy. It has been revealed that the state government has taken this action after the objectionable remarks made by Anant Maharaj about Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's government had awarded'Banga Vibhushan'to Anant Maharaj in February this year. According to the information, after the controversy arose over Anant Maharaj's remarks about Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, the West Bengal government took a tough stand. After this, it was decided to withdraw the Banga Vibhushan award given to him. Anant Maharaj is also known as Nagendra Roy (Nagen Roy) and he is a Rajya Sabha MP of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was awarded the'Banga Vibhushan'award on 21 February 2026. This honor was awarded by the government of the then Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee just before the West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections. Banga Vibhushan is the highest civilian award given by the government of West Bengal.
