Anandamoy Barman, MLA of Matigara-Naxalbari constituency, has come up with a major change in the administrative structure of Siliguri. On Wednesday, in a meeting held at Uttarkanya, the administrative headquarters of North Bengal, he handed over two important proposals to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The proposal calls for the declaration of Siliguri as a separate administrative district. He also appealed for the inclusion of Naxalbari, Kharibari, and Phansidewa police stations in the Siliguri Police Commissionerate. According to the MLA, if implemented, the administrative functions will be more dynamic and effective. The residents of Siliguri city have been demanding a separate administrative district for a long time. In Wednesday's meeting, the MLA said that the people of Siliguri have to go to the Darjeeling district headquarters or Jalpaiguri headquarters. This also leads to wastage of money with time. Due to the inaccessible roads and distance of the hills, the general public suffers. The MLA proposed that Siliguri district may be a part of Darjeeling district and Jalpaiguri district.
