Kolkata: The voter list in West Bengal has become a battleground ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. Around 65 lakh names have been deleted from the final list released by the Election Commission on Saturday. The most shocking is Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's constituency, Bhabanipur, from where a total of 47,094 voters have been deleted. How big this figure is can be gauged from the fact that Mamata Banerjee won the last by-election by 58,000 votes. If the 14,000 names that are still unresolved can be changed completely. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has directly challenged these figures by weaponising the fact that the votes that the Trinamool Congress used to win so far are now disappearing. The BJP claims that the names of infiltrators and bogus voters have been removed from this list, which is necessary for a fair election, that the Central Election Commission is targeting the names of other Trinamool party voters.
