Bakrid (Eid-ul-Adha) is coming. This festival will be celebrated on 27 or 28 May. But this time in West Bengal there is a big controversy about animal sacrifice. TMC MP Mahua Moitra along with many people reached the Calcutta High Court. There was a demand that cow-buffalo sacrifice should be allowed. The court heard the matter on Thursday and gave a big decision. TMC MP Mahua Moitra and party MLA Akhruzzaman filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court. They sought exemption under Section 12 of the Animal Slaughter Act, that is, special concession only for Bakrid this year. Mahua Moitra said outside the court that it is not just an issue of the Muslim community. Many Hindu traders also run their houses by selling animals on Bakrid. They said that we are only asking for permission to sacrifice buffalo or bull, not cow. The petitioners'lawyer Shadan Farasat argued in the court that it is against the religious sacrifice law. It is also against the Calcutta High Court on Thursday, 21 May, in which the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court said that no such bull has been banned.
