NCP Names Rajendra Jain for Rajya Sabha By-Election, Marking Shift in Power

NCP Names Rajendra Jain for Rajya Sabha By-Election, Marking Shift in Power

The buzz in Maharashtra politics over the NCP's Rajya Sabha seat has almost died down. The Ajit Pawar-led NCP has fielded senior leader Rajendra Jain for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-election. The decision has brought to the fore the changing balance of power in the party and the growing influence of Praful Patel. The seat was vacated when Sunetra Pawar resigned from the Rajya Sabha to focus on state politics. Several names were discussed within the party thereafter. For some time, the name of former MP Navneet Rana also came up seriously, but due to internal opposition, Rajendra Jain's name was finally cleared by the party leadership. Rajendra Jain's selection is not being seen as a mere organisational decision. Political pundits see this as a major strategic victory for Praful Patel. Jain is a two-time Member of the Legislative Council (MLC). He is considered to be very close to Patel. Sunetra Patel has been playing a key role in the organisation, especially in Vidarbha. Praful Patel's role in the party has been under discussion for quite some time.

BJP Reaches Out to Sikh Community Through Historic Institution in Punjab

BJP Reaches Out to Sikh Community Through Historic Institution in Punjab

In Punjab, the BJP is trying to strengthen its hold among the Sikh community. Under this strategy, the party is now trying to reach out to religious and social institutions that are considered to have a big influence in the Sikh community. On the anniversary of Operation Blue Star on June 6, Girish Mahajan, a minister in the Maharashtra government and a BJP leader, reached the Damdami Taksal in Mehta Chowk, about 40 kilometers from Amritsar. He participated in the program organized by the Mint chief Baba Harnam Singh Dhuma. Political experts say that this is the first time that a senior BJP leader has joined the program of the Damdami Taksal. The Damdami Taksal was founded by Guru Gobind Singh in the year 1706. This institution works to promote Sikh religious teachings and is considered to have a good hold in a large section of the Sikh community of Punjab. This initiative of the BJP is now being seen as an attempt to reach out to the Sikh voters. According to political analysts, the BJP does not want to expand its base to the rural areas of Punjab.

Mahayuti Infighting: Shiv Sena MLA Bachchu Kadu Demands Eknath Shinde as Chief Minister Again

Talks of infighting within the Mahayuti over the chief minister's post have once again gained momentum in Maharashtra politics. Shiv Sena MLA Bachchu Kadu, despite being a part of the government, has time and again targeted the BJP and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Once again, he publicly expressed his desire that Eknath Shinde should be made the chief minister again. During an event in Bhandara, he criticised the Fadnavis government on the issue of farmers'suicides. Bachchu Kadu said, "Despite being the chief minister from Vidarbha, 10 to 15 farmers are committing suicide in the state every day." He warned that if farmers are cheated in the matter of loan waiver, it will not be tolerated. Bachchu Kadu further said, "Shiv Sainiks will not sit quiet anymore." Bachchu Kadu said that Eknath Shinde should be made the chief minister. The expectations of Vidarbha from the chief minister should be fulfilled. Massive Fire at Indian Steel Plant Kills Eight Workers

Massive Fire at Indian Steel Plant Kills Eight Workers

At least eight workers were killed on Monday when a ladle carrying molten steel broke and caused a massive fire at the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL) plant, also known as Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, officials said. At least six workers were injured in the incident and taken to nearby hospitals. Multiple fire trucks and dozens of firefighters were pressed to bring the fire under control. Visakhapatnam District Collector M Abhishikth Kishore confirmed that eight people died. “The mishap occurred at 4.15 pm. The injured have been admitted to two private hospitals where they are stable,” he said. Officials said the temperature of the molten steel in the large industrial ladle was around 1,500-1,600 degrees Celsius. The Union Ministry of Steel said a sudden explosion had triggered the accident. “At the time of the incident, casting operations were underway at Caster-2 of Steel Melt Shop-1. Before the slide gate could be opened to pour hot crude steel from the ladle to the tundish for further casting, a sudden and severe explosion took place. A large ball of fire rose to the ceiling of the shop, and Overhead Crane-2 subsequently caught fire,” the ministry said in a statement, adding that it was closely monitoring the situation and extending all necessary support to the affected families and injured workers. Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Dr Shankbratha Bagchi told The Indian Express on Monday evening that rescue operations were underway. “We are still on the job. It will take hours,” he said. Police identified the deceased as G V Apparao, Prabhakar, Bheem Kumar, Krishna Nag, Gold Kumar, Trinadh, Appala Raju, and Ramana. Five of them were employees of the plant, and three were contract labourers, officials said. RINL has initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident, the Steel Ministry said. A three-member external enquiry committee, headed by the Director-in-Charge, Bokaro Steel Plant, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has also been constituted to conduct an independent inquiry. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock and grief at the incident. The CM spoke with the District Collector and Police Commissioner, and directed them to provide help for the families of affected persons. Officials briefed the CM on the ongoing situation and relief operations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sadness at the loss of lives and announced Rs 2 lakh ex gratia to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured. “Saddened by the mishap at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. Praying that the injured recover at the earliest. The local authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected. An ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured will be given Rs 50,000,” the Prime Minister’s Office quoted the PM as saying. Former chief minister and YSRCP president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy also expressed grief over the incident. Demanding a comprehensive inquiry, Jagan called for strict action against those found responsible and stressed that worker safety must remain the highest priority in all industrial establishments. A major accident had taken place at the Vizag Steel Plant in 2012, when 16 workers died following the explosion of a newly commissioned oxygen plant. In December 2020, four workers were injured when molten steel spilt from one of the ladles at the same spot where the accident occurred on Monday. Sources in the steel plant management said an external safety audit is held every year and that internal inspections are conducted every three months by the safety engineering department of the plant.

Tensions Rise as Israel Escalates Military Operations Against Hezbollah Amid Ongoing Negotiations with Iran

In the Middle East, Israel continues to work with the United States against Iran amid ongoing negotiations with Tehran to end the war. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on the other hand, continues to escalate military operations against the terrorist organization Hezbollah in Lebanon. However, a fragile ceasefire has recently been brokered by the United States between Israel and Lebanon, but despite this, attacks are being carried out by the Israeli military. Questions are now being raised about the motive behind these attacks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. At the same time, it is being claimed that Netanyahu is constantly fighting to win the parliamentary elections to be held in October, 2026 this year. It is also being said that the Israeli Prime Minister wants to appease his right-wing supporters by ignoring the advice of US President Donald Trump not to wage war.

India Defends Great Nicobar Islands Project Amid Controversy

India Defends Great Nicobar Islands Project Amid Controversy

Amid the ongoing controversy over the Great Nicobar Islands project, the central government has spoken out in detail for the first time. Defence Ministry sources have said the project is designed with India's strategic maritime interests, economic prospects, and growing geopolitical importance in the Indo-Pacific region in mind. Hitting out at critics who say they are suffering from "geographical illiteracy." Not understanding the true strategic importance of the region. The government is working on plans for an international container transshipment port, civilian-cum-naval airport, modern townships under the project. The government believes the project will give India new strategic strength in the Indian Ocean region. These statements come at a time when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recently questioned the Great Nicobar project. He claimed the government was working to benefit a big businessman. He alleged that India's most important ecological land was being used for hotel and kanosi projects. Rahul Gandhi had released a 15-minute video on his visit to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

TMC Suffers Major Split as Nearly 20 MPs Decide to Support NDA

TMC Suffers Major Split as Nearly 20 MPs Decide to Support NDA

Amid deepening political crisis in the TMC, Senior MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar on Monday claimed that nearly 20 Lok Sabha MPs has decided to support the NDA and had communicated their position to Speaker Om Birla, triggering a split in the party's parliamentary unit . The development comes barely days after the TMC leadership suffered a setback in the West Bengal Assembly, where 58 of its 80 MLAs defied the party high command's decision to appoint veteran leader Sovandeb Chattopadhyay as the Leader of the Opposition, and elected expelled MLA Ritabrata Banerjee to that post. The political turbulence that has gripped the TMC since its Assembly election debacle appeared to spill over to its parliamentary ranks on Monday, with a group of dissident MPs extending support to the NDA even as party supremo Mamata Banerjee was in Delhi attending an INDIA bloc conclave to chart a pan-India strategy against the BJP. The dramatic development marks the first major split in the party's parliamentary wing since the TMC was founded and raises the prospect of a broader realignment within one of the country's largest opposition parties. Speaking to PTI over phone, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar said 20 MPs had decided to support the NDA. "Nearly 20 TMC MPs, including me, have decided to support the NDA for Bengal's development. We have decided to write to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and formally support the NDA," said the four-term MP, who resigned from all party posts last week. Later, speaking to a news channel, she claimed that a letter bearing the signatures of 20 MPs had already been sent to the Speaker. "The letter has already reached the Speaker. We have sought separate seating arrangements as a separate bloc," she said. Sources said the dissident MPs intend to argue before the Speaker that Ghosh Dastidar continues to be the valid chief whip of the party in the Lok Sabha and that subsequent changes announced by the party leadership were not completed through the required parliamentary procedure.

Iran-Israel Conflict Escalates: Missile Barrages, Airstrikes, and Threats of Further Confrontation

Iran-Israel Conflict Escalates: Missile Barrages, Airstrikes, and Threats of Further Confrontation

Tehran [Iran], June 8 (ANI): The fragile ceasefire that had held between Iran and Israel since April 8 collapsed on Monday, plunging West Asia into one of its most turbulent periods of direct military confrontation on the 100th day of the ongoing conflict. Within a span of less than 24 hours, the region witnessed missile barrages, retaliatory airstrikes, threats of further escalation, the involvement of regional proxies, and urgent diplomatic interventions by world powers seeking to prevent a border regional war. The day began with Iran launching a major missile barrage toward Israel, marking the first direct attack by Tehran since the cessation of hostilities on April 8. The strikes immediately triggered nationwide emergency alerts across Israel, with the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) activating air defence systems and warning citizens to remain vigilant. In an official statement, the IDF said, “Sirens were sounded in several areas across the country following the identification of missiles launched from Iran toward Israel. The IDF identified missiles launched from Iran toward Israel. Defensive systems are operating to intercept the threat.” Israeli military authorities initially reported the successful interception of two incoming missiles but cautioned that the threat was ongoing. Officials later warned that “additional barrages” had been launched toward Israeli territory, indicating that the attack was larger than first assessed. The missile assault marked a decisive breakdown of the diplomatic restraint that had preserved the ceasefire for nearly two months and set the stage for rapid military escalation. As tensions mounted, Iran sought to frame its actions as a response to Israeli military operations in Lebanon. The Commander of Khatam al-Anbiya accused Israel of repeatedly violating the ceasefire and committing war crimes. “The aggressive Zionist regime, through its repeated violations of the ceasefire, has continuously escalated its acts of aggression against the oppressed people of Lebanon. These actions have been carried out with the green light and support of the criminal United States and amid the silence of international bodies. By employing prohibited weapons, including phosphorus munitions, the regime has committed war crimes,” the official statement said. Iran further claimed that Israeli military operations in Beirut’s southern suburb of Dahiyeh had crossed previously established red lines. “Despite previous warnings issued by the Islamic Republic of Iran, the child-killing Zionist regime has crossed all red lines and, by intensifying its attacks in southern Lebanon, has targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut (Dahiyeh),” the statement added. Tehran’s warning culminated in an explicit threat of broader military action should Israeli operations continue. “We had previously warned that if the crimes committed in Dahiyeh were expanded, we would strike targets within the occupied territories. The Zionist military must immediately cease its attacks against southern Lebanon and Dahiyeh. Should it expand its aggression in that area or respond to Iran’s action, it will face even more forceful and regret-inducing blows. In such a case, devastating operations will be launched against the regime and its supporters,” the statement said. Israel responded within hours. According to Iranian state media reports, powerful explosions rocked multiple Iranian cities as the Israeli Air Force launched a major strike campaign targeting strategic military infrastructure deep inside Iran. Iran’s official news agency IRNA reported at least “two powerful explosions” in Tehran, while residents in Isfahan heard “at least three blasts.” The state broadcaster IRIB later reported “multiple explosions heard in Tehran, Tabriz, and Isfahan.” The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) alleged that Israeli forces had employed “air-launched ballistic missiles” during the operation. Confirming the attacks, the IDF announced that Israeli aircraft had struck military targets in western and central Iran. The Israeli Air Force later expanded on the operation, saying, “Dozens of Air Force fighter jets, guided by Military Intelligence, completed a short time ago an extensive strike against the strategic defence systems of the Iranian terror regime.” Additional Israeli military updates indicated that fighter aircraft had “attacked several targets at the petrochemical complex in Mahshahr,” a key energy and industrial hub located in southwestern Iran. Iranian authorities sought to reassure the public following the strikes. The Tehran Fire Department stated that “urban areas were not struck” and noted that explosions recorded at 4:43 a.m. and 4:45 a.m. had not impacted residential districts. Alongside the military confrontation, intense political manoeuvring unfolded in Washington. In a telephone interview with the Financial Times, US President Donald Trump asserted that he remained firmly in control of efforts to manage the crisis and suggested that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had limited room for independent decision-making. “He won’t have any choice. I call the shots. I call all the shots. He [Netanyahu] doesn’t call the shots,” Trump said. The US President also insisted that the latest military escalation would not derail diplomatic efforts involving Tehran. “It’s not going to have any impact on the deal,” Trump said. At the same time, reports emerged that Trump had privately urged Netanyahu to avoid further military retaliation. According to Axios, the US President told the Israeli leader “not to retaliate” further following the Iranian missile attacks in an effort to preserve what remained of the ceasefire framework. However, the conflict escalated further during the day. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Aerospace Force announced the launch of a retaliatory military operation known as “Operation Nasr,” targeting two of Israel’s most significant military airbases. The IRGC declared, “With trust in Almighty God, minutes ago the brave fighters of the IRGC Aerospace Force launched Operation Nasr, targeting key centres of the strategic air bases of Nevatim and Tel Nof.” Iran said the operation was conducted in retaliation for Israeli strikes against Iranian radar installations and military infrastructure. The regional dimensions of the conflict expanded simultaneously as Yemen’s Houthi movement joined the confrontation. The Houthis launched a projectile toward Israel and announced a sweeping maritime blockade in the Red Sea. “We declare a complete and total ban on Israeli maritime navigation in the Red Sea,” the group said in a statement posted on Telegram. The declaration came amid reports of an Iranian blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns among energy markets and global shipping operators about the potential disruption of critical trade routes through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supplies pass. As military activity intensified, international leaders renewed calls for restraint and diplomacy. UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper warned that the latest escalation threatened both regional stability and global commerce. In a post on X, she said, “The resumption of conflict between Iran and Israel is in no one’s interest. Both sides must show restraint and de-escalate immediately. Negotiations must continue towards the lasting settlement that we all need, for peace and stability in the region, and for the full restoration of global trade.” In Tehran, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei expressed concern that the military exchanges were undermining already fragile diplomatic contacts between Iran and the United States. “These events will fuel the chaotic situation in the diplomatic process,” Baghaei said. He added, “These events are intensifying suspicions. We were already exchanging messages with the United States in an atmosphere of very intense suspicion.” India also reacted to the sharp deterioration in the security situation. In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) expressed concern over the renewed fighting and emphasised the humanitarian and economic consequences of the conflict. “India deeply regrets the renewed attacks in West Asia. These developments are a matter of utmost concern to the international community. This conflict has now lasted over 100 days and has already caused immense human suffering. It has also had a debilitating impact on the global economy and energy supplies. We call on all parties to immediately de-escalate tensions, ensure that civilians are not harmed and conclude ongoing negotiations for a diplomatic solution so that peace and stability can return to the region,” the statement said. As the day progressed, diplomatic efforts to restore calm intensified with Trump signalling that negotiations aimed at ending the latest round of hostilities were nearing a critical stage. US President Donald Trump said both Iran and Israel were looking to implement an immediate ceasefire following the escalation. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “Both sides, Israel and Iran, are looking to do an immediate ceasefire! Final negotiations on ‘Peace’ are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way.” The US President also indicated that Washington would maintain pressure on Tehran until a ‘Final Deal” was reached. “The blockade will remain in place, and in full force and effect, until a ‘Final Deal’ is reached. Things should move quickly,” he added. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also urged restraint, warning that the latest escalation highlighted the dangers posed by the collapse of a fragile ceasefire. In a post on X, Sharif said, “As we work earnestly and painstakingly, together with our brothers and partners, to find a peaceful diplomatic solution to the conflict, and especially when the final objective is just about to be achieved, we sincerely urge all sides to exercise restraint.” Meanwhile, signs of de-escalation emerged from both sides. According to Tasnim News Agency, Iran announced it was suspending its military operation against Israel, while cautioning that the pause remained conditional and that military action could resume should Israel continue strikes in southern Lebanon. CNN, citing two Israeli sources, reported that Israel had agreed to a request from the Trump administration to halt strikes on Iran. One of the sources described the situation as “very fragile”, noting Iran’s warning that it could resume attacks if Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon continued. Meanwhile, Iranian President Pezeshkian asserted that Tehran remains committed to both defending its national interests and pursuing diplomatic engagement, emphasising that the country will not back down in the face of threats while also keeping the door open to negotiations. In a post on X, the Iranian president stressed that military preparedness and diplomacy are complementary pillars of national strength, rejecting suggestions that Tehran has chosen one path over the other. He said, “Diplomacy and defence are the two wings of national power; we have neither abandoned the field nor the negotiating table.” By the end of the day, despite intense military exchanges, diplomatic channels remained active as international efforts continued to prevent the conflict from expanding into a broader regional war. TMC Rebel MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar Refuses to Back Down Amid Party Crisis

TMC Rebel MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar Refuses to Back Down Amid Party Crisis

New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): Rebel TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar on Monday said she would not yield to political pressure after announcing that a faction of 20 MPs has formally requested the Lok Sabha Speaker for separate seating arrangements. Speaking to ANI, she emphasised her decades-long commitment to the state and her resolve to chart an independent path, citing “maladministration, lawlessness and unemployment” in West Bengal as reasons for her exit. Dismissing charges of opportunism, she said, “Mera sar katega lekin jhukega nahi… Maine bohot seh liya… I did not come here after Mamata Banerjee became Chief Minister in 2011; I have been fighting here for 40 years. And as I said, the words of such people have absolutely no effect on me.” Ghosh Dastidar explained that her decision to separate from the TMC stems from deep dissatisfaction with the party’s current state of affairs and governance issues in West Bengal. “Maine bohot seh liya (I have endured enough). I did not come here after Mamata Banerjee became Chief Minister in 2011; I have been fighting here for 40 years. And as I said, the words of such people have absolutely no effect on me,” she added. MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar emphasised that her primary focus remains on national interests and the security of the country, setting aside internal political conjecture. “We will see what happens later. For now, isn’t it enough that we want to work for Bengal, for the country, and to keep India secure? This is a crucial issue; the issue of the nation is paramount to us,” she said. Addressing questions regarding whether West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had attempted to initiate dialogue, the veteran leader stated there has been a complete lack of communication from the party leadership. Recalling her resignation as District Chairperson following unfavourable election results, Ghosh Dastidar expressed disillusionment with how she was treated. “I took personal responsibility for the poor outcome, thinking perhaps I hadn’t performed my role effectively, and stepped down. Even after that, no one met me or even called; I was simply cast aside,” she said. The MP, who has been associated with Banerjee for four decades, further lamented the deterioration of their professional relationship. “I have been with Mamata Banerjee for 40 years. I never imagined I would live to see a day when she would instruct someone to hurl abuse at me. It was as if they unleashed someone to bark,” she added. Earlier, Dastidar escalated the internal crisis within her party by announcing that a faction of 20 MPs had formally requested the Lok Sabha Speaker for separate seating arrangements. “We are 20 MPs who have requested the Speaker for separate seating, and we will be working in conjunction with the Central and State Government for the development of West Bengal,” she told ANI. “We are against the lawlessness, misgovernance and unemployment in the state of West Bengal over the past few years. Things have been getting from bad to worse, and I have been with Mamata Banerjee for 40 years… It is useless to say that just because she is not in power in West Bengal, I have left. It is not that…,” she added. Ghosh alleged that in the last three to four years, the pressure was too much on the government officers to work according to the whims and fancies of certain leadership. “We want to work for the development of the state and for the national interest and the safety and security of the nation. That is why we want to work separately,” she said. The development comes amid intensifying internal turmoil following the party’s defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, which saw the state elect its first BJP government. Meanwhile, the anti-defection law requires a faction to have at least two-thirds of the party’s strength to avoid automatic disqualification. With the TMC holding 28 seats, the rebels only need the support of 19 MPs to make their move legally viable. With Kakoli claiming the support of 20, it appears curtains for the Mamata Banerjee faction. The unfolding events present the most significant parliamentary challenge yet for the TMC leadership, signalling a volatile new chapter in West Bengal’s political landscape. The party had earlier faced rebellion by its MLAs, with expelled MLA Ritabrata Banerjee stating that 58 TMC legislators have been given recognition in the assembly as the opposition group. Meanwhile, the rebel faction of the TMC has claimed to have 20 MPs with them. These rebel MPs say that they want Kakoli Ghosh not Abhishek Banerjee as their leader in the Lok Sabha. CM Suvendu Adhikari has gone out after meeting TMC MPs at Satabdi Roy's house. He has shown the victory sign while leaving. Suvendu was with the MPs for 40 minutes. Opposition Parties Unite in New Delhi, Demand Action on Electoral Roll Revisions and Examination Irregularities

Leaders of various opposition parties on Monday gathered for a crucial meeting of the INDIA alliance in New Delhi, which witnessed calls for unity of the coalition and discussions on action plan against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the irregularities in examinations including the NEET-UG. At the meeting, the leaders called for the need to safeguard democratic values and address people-centric issues such as unemployment, price rise, "atrocities" against oppressed sections, and sought an all-party meeting to discuss them along with the "precarious" economic situation in the country. Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said, "We have agreed on five issues. A letter would be sent to the chief justice of India (CJI) soon on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, 'vote loot' and 'stealing of elections'. "It was also unanimously agreed to demand the immediate resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan because he presided over the betrayal of lakhs of youth who appeared in NEET and CBSE," he said. Flanked by Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Mamata Banerjee and other senior leaders of the grouping, Kharge said, "We are going to raise many people-centric issues, which all the parties have unanimously agreed to." "The opposition leaders also decided to continue coordination during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, with daily morning meetings at the office of the leader of opposition," he added. The Congress veteran also said that all the opposition leaders aired their views freely at the meeting, which Shiv Sena-UBT's Uddhav Thackeray and JMM's Hemant Soren joined virtually. They also decided to meet after every two months to ensure opposition unity, with the next meeting scheduled in Hyderabad for August.

India Block Alliance Exposes Unity and Differences Amid Election Campaign Coordination Concerns

India Block Alliance Exposes Unity and Differences Amid Election Campaign Coordination Concerns

At the India Block meeting in Delhi on Monday, the opposition unity as well as the differences within the alliance came out in the open. According to sources, many allies questioned the leadership of the Congress and the way the alliance was functioning. Some leaders resented the alleged rhetoric and lack of coordination by Congress leaders against allies during the election campaign. According to sources, the issue was first raised by Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, followed by several other leaders, including those from the Left. Some leaders also questioned how effective political coordination would be possible if India Block met only once a year. They demanded more regular meetings. On this, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi said that the alliance is fully united at the national level, but during the election campaign, they also have to take into account the political situation in the states and the opinion of local leaders. According to sources, the meeting also discussed the rise of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP).

UFC Event on White House South Lawn Sparks Legal and Political Battle

UFC Event on White House South Lawn Sparks Legal and Political Battle

A planned Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event on the White House South Lawn has become the center of a legal and political battle, but as of now, the event has not been canceled. A federal lawsuit filed by a watchdog group is seeking to block the proposed June 14 event, arguing that it improperly uses public property for a private commercial venture that could financially benefit President Donald Trump and his associates. The White House has dismissed the lawsuit as politically motivated and insists the event will move forward as part of broader celebrations tied to America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. With the case now headed to federal court, the future of what could be one of the most unusual sporting events ever held on White House grounds remains uncertain. No. There is currently no court order canceling the event. The lawsuit seeks to prevent the UFC card from taking place, but until a judge rules otherwise, preparations for the event can continue. Workers have reportedly already begun constructing elements of the venue on the White House South Lawn, signaling that organizers are proceeding as planned. For now, the event remains scheduled for June 14. The lawsuit was filed by the Public Integrity Project on behalf of a political activist and a US Air Force veteran. The plaintiffs argue that allowing a UFC event on White House grounds violates federal law and improperly benefits private businesses and individuals. According to the complaint, the administration has granted UFC access to federal property in a way that no private sports organization has previously received. The lawsuit alleges that the arrangement could financially benefit: The plaintiffs characterize the proposal as an inappropriate use of public resources for private gain. The lawsuit raises several legal concerns. The complaint argues that the White House South Lawn and surrounding federal land should not be used to host a private, for-profit sporting event without proper authorization. Plaintiffs contend that the proposed arrangement exceeds the government’s authority to permit such activities. The lawsuit claims that some planned construction associated with the event may require congressional authorization. Among the concerns raised is a large event structure reportedly planned for the South Lawn. The filing also argues that federal agencies failed to conduct environmental reviews that may be required before approving large-scale construction and event activities on government property. Whether those arguments ultimately succeed will depend on how the court interprets federal permitting and land-use laws. The controversy extends beyond legal questions. Critics argue that the timing and nature of the event create the appearance of political and financial conflicts of interest. President Trump has maintained a long-standing public relationship with UFC and its leadership. Dana White has been one of Trump’s most visible supporters in recent years and has appeared at multiple political events. Because of those ties, critics argue that hosting a UFC event at the White House raises ethical concerns. Although organizers have linked the event to celebrations surrounding America’s 250th anniversary, critics note that the proposed date coincides with Trump’s 80th birthday on June 14. The lawsuit argues that the event appears more closely connected to the president’s birthday than to Independence Day festivities, which occur weeks later on July 4. Supporters reject that characterization and say the event is part of broader patriotic celebrations leading up to the nation’s semiquincentennial. The White House has strongly defended the proposal. Administration officials described the lawsuit as an attempt to obstruct a historic event and argued that the UFC card is consistent with other public gatherings and ceremonies held on White House grounds. Officials also rejected allegations that the event violates federal law. According to the administration, the event is intended to celebrate America and showcase a sport that has become increasingly popular with US audiences. The White House maintains that all necessary approvals have been obtained. Yes, but only if the plaintiffs successfully convince a judge to issue an injunction. An injunction is a court order that temporarily prevents an action from taking place while legal disputes are resolved. To obtain one, plaintiffs generally must demonstrate: Courts often face a high threshold when considering requests to halt major public events on short notice. Because the event is scheduled for June 14, the court will likely need to act quickly if it intends to consider emergency relief. The compressed timeline could become an important factor in the case. For UFC, the event represents a potentially historic promotional opportunity. A fight card staged on White House grounds would be unprecedented in the history of the organization and could become one of the most watched events in combat sports. The legal challenge, however, has shifted attention away from the fighters and toward questions involving ethics, public property, and presidential authority. Regardless of the court’s decision, the dispute has already generated significant national attention. The next key development will come from the federal court reviewing the lawsuit. Several outcomes remain possible: Until a judge acts, the UFC event remains scheduled and has not been canceled. For now, the biggest fight may not be taking place inside an octagon, but inside a courtroom.

Sachin Pilot Stays Silent Amidst Ashok Gehlot's Attacks, Focuses on Youth Issues

The relationship between Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot has once again become a topic of discussion in Rajasthan politics. The former Chief Minister recently attacked Sachin referring to the events of September 2022, but sources close to Pilot say that the Congress leader has decided to stay away from the counter-narrative this time as well. According to sources, Sachin Pilot will maintain'silence'on Gehlot's scathing attacks and devote more of his political energy to taking on the BJP government. His focus will be on the NEET paper leak, CBSE controversy, rising inflation and unfulfilled promises of Rajasthan's Bhajan Lal Sharma government. This is not the first time Ashok Gehlot has targeted him. People close to Pilot claim that Sachin has never responded to personal attacks before. He has always chosen the path of moderation and humility instead of confrontation. Pilot believes that the issues related to the youth of the country are more important in the current times. So he is taking care of the NEET paper leak and the CBSE controversy. Along with this, Bhajan Lal Sharma has also come to power on the basis of the work of the Rajasthan government.

Srikkanth Blasts Selection Committee Over India's T20I Squad

Srikkanth Blasts Selection Committee Over India's T20I Squad

Former India captain and ex-chief selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth has launched a blistering attack on the selectors over India’s T20I squad for the upcoming Ireland and England series, questioning multiple calls — from the vice-captaincy to the all-rounder slots. India have named Shreyas Iyer as the new T20I captain, with Tilak Varma handed the vice-captaincy after Axar Patel was stripped of the role he held during the T20 World Cup. Speaking on his YouTube channel CheekyCheekaTV, Srikkanth was unimpressed. “Tilak Varma hasn’t even captained a side,” he said, taking aim at chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir for the decision. The former chief selector was equally pointed on the Tilak vs Patidar debate, a view he had aired on CheekyCheekaTV earlier this IPL season and one that has only hardened since. “He is not in form, and he doesn’t have the big-hitting capacity. He is not a tearaway batter. He can play shots, but he can’t demolish attacks like a Phil Salt or Rajat Patidar. Tilak Varma can’t smash the bowling like Rajat Patidar,” he said. “He hasn’t done well for MI in the last two to three IPLs. He can’t take the opposition out of a contest. At his position, he has to play impactful knocks like Patidar.” Patidar’s case for inclusion was hard to ignore. He captained RCB to back-to-back IPL titles and amassed 501 runs in IPL 2026 at a strike rate of 192.69, clearing the ropes 42 times across the season. Yet he finds himself out of the squad entirely — a decision Srikkanth described as the selectors’ headache that they have simply refused to solve. On Washington Sundar , Srikkanth pulled no punches on CheekyCheekaTV. “Washington Sundar doesn’t deserve a place in the team. He doesn’t even bowl for GT and is playing as a middle-order batter. So he is a stand-by middle-order batter for India as he’s not bowling at all. He doesn’t bowl for GT and rarely bowls even for India. So it’s a question mark as to how Sundar is a certainty in the side as an all-rounder,” he said. Sundar bowled just 9.1 overs across 17 IPL 2026 games, with Gujarat Titans deploying him almost purely as a batter. For Srikkanth, that made the case for Krunal Pandya straightforward. Krunal, he argued, should have walked straight into the squad in place of Sundar — and should also have been preferred over Ravi Bishnoi . Krunal delivered 226 runs at a strike rate of 145.80 and took 14 wickets for RCB across the season, exactly the kind of two-way contribution Srikkanth believes Sundar is not currently offering India. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar acknowledged the difficulty of the selection process, saying the squad is full of equally talented cricketers competing for spots. For Srikkanth, that is simply not a good enough answer.

Uttarakhand Congress Spokesperson Criticizes BJP Government Over Increasing Debt and Prioritization of Leader Rehabilitation

Uttarakhand Congress Spokesperson Criticizes BJP Government Over Increasing Debt and Prioritization of Leader Rehabilitation

Garima Mehra Dasauni, the chief spokesperson of the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee, has strongly reacted to the release of another list of liabilities by the state government. She alleged that the BJP government in Uttarakhand, which is struggling with economic crisis and increasing debt, is engaged in political rehabilitation of its leaders ignoring the interests of the people. Garima Mehra Dasauni said that the debt on the state is continuously increasing. The total debt on the state at the time when the Congress government was out of power in March 2017 was Rs 44,583 crore, which has increased to more than one lakh crore rupees by March 2026. She said that this situation is worrisome and the government should pay attention to financial discipline. She alleged that the government cites lack of resources in terms of development works, health services, education system and employment to the youth, but when it comes to giving responsibilities and facilities to the BJP leaders, the government becomes completely liberal. She termed it as injustice to the people. Garima Dasauni said that by now the government should clarify whether the white paper on these liabilities should be made by the state treasury.

Opposition Alliance Criticizes Congress for Poor Coordination and Handling of Coalition Partners

Opposition Alliance Criticizes Congress for Poor Coordination and Handling of Coalition Partners

NEW DELHI: Knives were out at the crucial meeting of the opposition INDIA alliance on Monday, where the Congress, the largest constituent of the bloc, came under sharp criticism from several allies over poor coordination and the party's approach towards the coalition partners. The Samajwadi Party (SP), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), NCP (SP), National Conference (NC) and the Left parties raised strong objection to Congress's handling of the alliance partners, especially the DMK. According to sources present at the meeting, the main bone of contention was the absence of the DMK, with several leaders questioning why one of the alliance's most important constituents was not present. They also urged the Congress to take steps to bring the Dravidian party back into the fold. DMK boycotted the meeting, citing discontent of its cadres over the "betrayal" by the Congress after the grand old party chose to join the Vijay-led TVK government in Tamil Nadu. The sharpest criticism came from SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. Invited by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge to speak first, Yadav did not mince words as he attacked Congress for its failure to coordinate effectively with allies at the state level. Raising the issue of the DMK's absence, Yadav said that as the largest party in the bloc, Congress should be "magnanimous" and display a "large heart" in dealing with allies. He reminded the meeting that there had been an understanding among alliance constituents that, wherever regional parties were strong, Congress would support them rather than compete with them. In a veiled reference to Congress's attacks on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Left parties in various states, Yadav said the opposition alliance must maintain a uniform position on issues such as the alleged misuse of central agencies by the BJP-led government. "From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, the Congress must adopt the same position," he said, according to sources.

Rajasthan Congress Leader Sachin Pilot Criticizes State Government Over Unfulfilled Promises

Rajasthan Congress Leader Sachin Pilot Criticizes State Government Over Unfulfilled Promises

According to sources, Pilot has not responded to Gehlot's attacks in the past and has always preferred decency over acrimonious rhetoric. He believes that in the present times, issues related to NEET paper leak and education are more important. Sources said that Pilot is focusing on cornering the Bhajan Lal Sharma government of Rajasthan over its unfulfilled promises. The government has been in power for more than two and a half years, but many of its promises have not yet been fulfilled. According to the advertisement, Gehlot had said that the September 2022 incident was not a rebellion against the Congress high command, but a disagreement over the prospects of Sachin Pilot being made the chief minister by the MLAs. On 25 September 2022, a meeting of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) was called in Jaipur, in which a resolution was to be passed authorizing the Congress president to take a decision on the leadership of Rajasthan. However, many MLAs did not attend the meeting and leaders close to Gehlot gathered at Shanti Dhariwal's residence to advertise.

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah urged the INDIA bloc leaders to join the planned protest by NC’s legislature party in New Delhi on the opening day of the upcoming Monsoon session of Parliament to demand restoration of statehood for Union Territory. Trinamool Congress Crisis: At Least 20 Lok Sabha MPs Plan to Leave and Form Separate Bloc Aligned with BJP-Led NDA

Trinamool Congress Crisis: At Least 20 Lok Sabha MPs Plan to Leave and Form Separate Bloc Aligned with BJP-Led NDA

The crisis in the Trinamool Congress (TMC) deepened on Monday with the rebel camp claiming that at least 20 of 28 Lok Sabha MPs have decided to part ways with the party, form a separate bloc, and align with the BJP-led NDA. This is a massive blow to party chief Mamata Banerjee, who has already lost control of the TMC Legislature Party in the West Bengal Assembly. While the rebel group led by Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar claimed the support of as many as 20 MPs, at least 14 of them attended a meeting at Union Minister Bhupender Yadav’s home along with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Those close to Mamata Banerjee put the number of rebels at 12. The rebel camp claimed that the Lok Sabha MPs who attended the meeting are Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Satabdi Roy, Bapi Haldar, Arup Chakraborty, June Maliah, Deepak Adhikari, Kalipada Saren, Jagadish Basunia, Asit Mal, Md Abu Taher Khan, Khalilur Rahaman, Sharmila Sarkar, Prasun Banerjee, and Partha Bhowmick. The dissidents claimed the support of six more. It was a day of fast-paced developments in the TMC in Delhi . While Mamata Banerjee and second-in-command Abhishek, her nephew and TMC parliamentary party leader, attended a meeting of the Opposition INDIA bloc, the rebels moved ahead to split the Lok Sabha wing. The first blow to the TMC came in the morning when senior party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray resigned from the primary membership of the party and as a member of the Upper House. There is a likelihood of one more Rajya Sabha MP resigning, sources said. His resignation from the Upper House has been accepted by Chairman C P Radhakrishnan. Asked why he had resigned, Ray hit out at the party and told The Indian Express, “Because of the situation that was prevailing in the party for a long time.” To a question on whether he will be joining another party, he said, “I have spent 59 years in politics. So I have to take a call at the appropriate time after introspection and retrospection.” The dissident Lok Sabha MPs and Ray then met at a five-star hotel before proceeding to the house of Bhupender Yadav, who was the BJP’s West Bengal election in-charge. Suvendu Adhikari too arrived at Yadav’s Motilal Nehru Marg residence soon afterwards. Ghosh Dastidar, the Barasat MP, said that 20 TMC MPs, including her, had written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, requesting him for “separate seating”. This bloc of TMC MPs would “formally support the NDA” and work with the Central and state government for West Bengal’s development, she said. Sources in the Speaker’s office, however, said they had not yet received any letter from the MPs. Sources said Ghosh Dastidar signed the letter as the party’s chief whip. According to the rebels, though Kalyan Banerjee had replaced her as the chief whip on Mamata Banerjee’s directions, the change was not completed through the required parliamentary procedure. This has allowed the Barasat MP to claim the post of chief whip. Bardhaman Purba MP Sharmila Sarkar, who is in the rebel camp, claimed the group had submitted the letter. “We held a meeting. We want to sit separately. I respect Didi. I wanted to work, but I could not. Under the leadership of Kakoli di, this separate bloc has been formed,” she said. “We are 20 MPs. We held a meeting at Bhupender Yadav’s residence in the presence of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. We need to support the NDA for Bengal’s development. Kakoli di submitted the letter. So far, she is leading our block,” she said. What Mamata camp is saying Those close to Mamata Banerjee said the dissidents do not have the support of two-thirds of the MPs, which is needed to escape provisions of the anti-defection law. “The fake and fabricated narrative of the dirty tricks department of BJP is giving numbers of 20 MPs. There were 13 MPs — 12 from the Lok Sabha and one from the Rajya Sabha — who attended the meeting at Bhupender Yadav’s house. No one else has signed on the dotted line apart from these,” TMC’s Bardhaman-Durgapur MP Kirti Azad said in a social media post. Azad also disputed Ghosh Dastidar’s claim to the chief whip’s post, sharing a copy of the letter sent by Mamata Banerjee as chairperson of the TMC Parliamentary Party to Speaker Birla on May 20 informing him about the decision to appoint Kalyan as the chief whip. His party colleague Mahua Moitra targeted the rebels, calling on them to resign. “MPs won in 2024 on TMC ticket. The mandate was NOT for NDA … resign your seats and contest on BJP ticket. Let’s see what big heroes you are.” To escape the provisions of the anti-defection law, the rebel camp needs the support of at least 19 MPs. Their support for the NDA also gives the BJP a big edge in Parliament, effectively neutralising the challenge from the third-largest Opposition party in the House. The TMC is imploding in the aftermath of the party’s defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections last month. Earlier, at least 60 of the party’s 80 MLAs refused to accept Mamata’s choice of Sovandeb Chattopadhyay as the LoP in the Assembly.

Parimal Nathwani Files Nomination for Rajya Sabha Polls in Jharkhand

Parimal Nathwani Files Nomination for Rajya Sabha Polls in Jharkhand

Ranchi: Industrialist Parimal Nathwani on Monday filed his nomination for Rajya Sabha polls in Jharkhand as an Independent candidate with the support of BJP MLAs. JMM candidate Baidyanath Ram and Congress candidate Pranav Jha also filed their nominations in the presence of chief minister Hemant Soren. Nathwani is a three-time Rajya Sabha member. While he won Rajya Sabha elections as an Independent candidate in 2008 and 2014, he won RS polls as YSR Congress candidate from Andhra Pradesh in 2020. He is Director-Corporate Affairs at Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). After filing his nomination, Nathwani said: “I have also contested earlier as an Independent and won the seat. MLAs from across the party line have been supporting me and will back me up this time, too. I do not need to force anybody, and I believe that I will win on my own on the basis of the works done by me in the past.” He said he was one hundred per cent confident that MLAs across the party line would vote for him, leading to his victory. While referring to his 2014 victory as an Independent, Nathwani said it was his work that earned him the mandate, and he believed the same would repeat this time too. Nathwani said that he has previously served as a Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand in 2008 and 2014 and has worked in almost every sector. “I have never been an outsider as I have made Jharkhand my ‘Karmbhoomi’ (workplace), therefore, given a chance, I will work more than what I have done earlier,” said Nathwani. Earlier, before filing his nomination, a meeting of BJP MLAs was also held at the residence of BJP Chief Whip, Naveen Jaiswal. Nathwani also reached there and met the leaders present. The grand alliance has a total of 56 MLAs. Of these, 34 belong to the JMM. Winning a single seat requires 28 votes; thus, a JMM victory in one seat is assured. After casting 28 first-preference votes for the JMM candidate, six votes will remain surplus. Congress has 16 MLAs in the Assembly. Additionally, there are four RJD MLAs and two CPI(ML) MLAs. If all remain united, a Congress victory is certain. Within the NDA fold, BJP holds 21 votes, while AJSU, JD(U), and LJP hold one vote each, making a total of 24 votes. This leaves them four votes short of victory; however, Nathwani could win if cross-voting takes place.

Congress Leader Parameshwara Blames Defeats for Missing Out on Chief Ministership

Congress Leader Parameshwara Blames Defeats for Missing Out on Chief Ministership

Parameshwara said on Monday that in 2013, he had lost the assembly elections and he believes that if he had won, Siddaramaiah would not have become the chief minister at that time. He said that because of my defeat, Siddaramaiah became the chief minister. It is worth noting that Siddaramaiah faced serious allegations of ensuring Parameshwara's defeat in the assembly elections to gain the chief minister's post. However, Siddaramaiah has clarified that he had no role in Parameshwara's defeat. Parameshwara further explained that in 2018, despite the Congress getting more seats, the JD (S) with only 30 MLAs formed a coalition government and due to political circumstances, HD Kumaraswamy became the chief minister. He said that I could have become the chief minister, but for some unknown reasons, I was not made the chief minister. This is the second time that I did not get the post. I tried and I had full confidence, but political decisions depended on many factors. Ultimately, I was given the post of the deputy chief minister. He also said that he was asked to leave the chief ministership at the time of an advertisement.

TMC MPs Meet with BJP, Discuss Forming Separate Bloc within NDA

TMC MPs Meet with BJP, Discuss Forming Separate Bloc within NDA

Kolkata: At a time when former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee went to the national capital to attend I.N.D.I.A bloc’s meeting on Monday, 20 Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs held separate meeting with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) central leader Bhupendra Yadav and are ready to support NDA by creating a separate bloc. According to sources, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari along with former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Dev were also present at that meeting. Talking to the media, ‘Rebel’ TMC MP of Burdwan (East) Sharmila Sarkar spoke about the development and mentioned that the ‘rebel’ MPs want to work for the people but in a separate bloc. “I love Mamata Banerjee for whom I had joined TMC in 2024. Just when I was going for my campaigns I had learnt about the syndicate rule within TMC but I had never opened my mouth. I knew very little about the corruption than what is being opened now. I had resigned from my job to join TMC but had never got any help for furthering my work,” complained Sarkar. According to sources, TMC Lok Sabha MPs Prasun Banerjee, Sharmila Sarkar, Jagadish Chandra Basunia, Kalipada Soren Arup Chakraborty, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Satabdi Roy along with others had joined the ‘rebel’ MP group. Notably, till the time of reporting West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari along with the ‘rebel’ MP group is holding a meeting at Satabdi Roy’s residence at the national capital. “BJP is calling the opposition to participate in the administrative review meeting which never happened when TMC was in power. Many manipulations happened earlier as if I had written about some problem addressing Abhishek Banerjee against someone, later I found that my letter had reached against whom I had written,” further mentioned the Burdwan (East) TMC MP. Meanwhile, former Mayor of KMC and former TMC MLA Firhad Hakim met ‘rebel’ TMC MLA and LoP Raitabrata Banerjee at the state assembly but didn’t speak about the development.

DMK Exits India Alliance Over Congress's Actions, Eyes New Anti-BJP Coalition

DMK Exits India Alliance Over Congress's Actions, Eyes New Anti-BJP Coalition

After skipping a crucial meeting of the opposition INDIA alliance on Monday, the DMK confirmed that it is no longer a part of the coalition, while also asserting that a separate "strong, secular" anti-BJP force might form in the future. Speaking to reporters in Chennai, shortly after the INDIA alliance concluded a meeting of its constituents in New Delhi, DMK spokesperson T K S Elangovan said his party has decided to part ways with the coalition because of the actions of the Congress. He also claimed that several parties have already distanced themselves from the coalition, leading the DMK to choose a similar path. "Three of our allies (Congress, IUML, VCK) are now part of the TVK government. It means that they are no longer in the INDIA bloc. The AAP has already left and we are not in that alliance now," Elangovan said. The DMK was a policy-driven party, though it may share common goals with other parties over opposing the BJP. The party would now operate independently, basing future decisions on its own state-level committee meetings rather than collective alliance directives, the spokesperson said. He also stated that a "strong, secular, and anti-BJP alliance may form in the future" and that the DMK would monitor the decisions made by other opposition parties in Delhi to determine if there is any common ground to support. Recently, the party had announced that it would boycott the meeting of INDIA bloc constituents in New Delhi on Monday as the actions of the Congress have "deeply affected the sentiments of the DMK members." Describing the grand old party severing ties with the DMK and joining the C Joseph Vijay-led TVK government in a post-poll alliance as "betrayal," the DMK said in a statement recently that it would respect the sentiments of its cadres and boycott today's meeting attended by the Congress. Meanwhile, CPI state secretary M Veerapandian underscored the need to strengthen the alliance at the national level. "We insist that the largest democratic party, DMK, should continue in the INDIA bloc. Some parties that were in the DMK alliance have left and joined the TVK government, whereas we are supporting from outside," he told reporters here. (With inputs from PTI)

Telangana CM Announces 1 Lakh Houses for Low and Middle-Income Groups in Hyderabad

Telangana CM Announces 1 Lakh Houses for Low and Middle-Income Groups in Hyderabad

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced that the state government will construct 1 lakh houses for the Low Income Groups (LIG) and Middle Income Groups (MIG) across Hyderabad. Revanth Reddy laid the foundation stones for 11 projects for Rs 1,678 crore in Miyapur and works totalling Rs 13.40 crore in Serilingampally constituency on Monday, June 8. Addressing a public gathering, he said the promised houses will be built on the lines of houses built under Rajiv Swagruha. On the delimitation process, Revanth Reddy predicted that once over, Serilingampally, Quthbullapur and Kukatpally Assembly constituencies will be split into ten. “Don’t worry about getting a ticket or not. You work for the poor in your areas, and I’ll promise you that I’ll send the B-forms to your homes,” he looked at the leaders sharing the dias with him. He assured that traffic congestion in the Serilingampally constituency would be significantly eased with the construction of an international-standard bus terminal on 100 acres at Gajularamaram, adding that work on the project would commence within the next three months. Once again criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ) MPs and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy for not helping bring funds for Telangana from the Central government. “The BJP leaders here will show Narendra Modi’s photo to seek votes for a municipal ward. Will Modi come and clear your garbage from the drains?” he questioned. “If a husband doesn’t live well with his wife, will anybody call the elderly who attended the marriage to resolve the dispute?” he asked.

TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sukendu Sekhar Ray Resigns Amid Allegations of Party Misuse of Power

TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sukendu Sekhar Ray Resigns Amid Allegations of Party Misuse of Power

Kolkata: In a big jolt for the Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha MP Sukendu Sekhar Ray on Monday had resigned from both Rajya Sabha MP post and from the party. Talking to the media, Ray said that he had understood before that TMC would collapse. “During RG Kar rape and murder incident people didn’t want such things to continue. I was sidelined as I have protested separately on this incident. I had sought custodial interrogation of the police commissioner and the principal of RG Kar. I still believe they had the main role in tampering with the evidence. Manoj Verma was removed but to a higher post,” said Ray. Ray also mentioned that TMC had ‘misused’ its power. “I had resigned from the Rajya Sabha MP post even though I had the term till 2029. If I am not continuing with this party what is the use of keeping the post? The misuse of power led to this collapse and it was bound to happen. So, I have sent my resignation to the Speaker of the Rajya Sabha and to TMC Supremo,” further mentioned the former TMC Rajya Sabha MP. Notably, following the poll debacle of the TMC in the 2026 election, in the 2026 elections, Ray openly expressed dissatisfaction through social media posts and had strongly criticised the party over issues related to corruption. Meanwhile, senior TMC Lok Sabha MP Saugata Roy said that he would continue with the TMC.

NDA Leadership to Decide Ministerial Tenure of Upendra Kushwaha's Son

NDA Leadership to Decide Ministerial Tenure of Upendra Kushwaha's Son

Patna: Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) chief Upendra Kushwaha on Monday asserted that NDA leadership would decide how long his son, Deepak Prakash, would be minister. Prakash is set to lose his ministerial post because the NDA did not include him on the candidate list for the legislative council elections. He also skipped the MLC race on Monday, the last day for filing nomination papers. Kushwaha was also not present when nine NDA candidates filed their nomination papers for the MLC election. While talking to newspersons, the RLM chief said, "NDA leaders collectively decided to appoint him (Deepak Prakash) a minister… They will decide how long he will be a minister." When reminded that there had been talk of allocating an MLC seat, Kushwaha responded, "You should ask them (BJP) that question..." Asked about any further discussions, Kushwaha said that talks were always ongoing, adding that he would remain with the NDA. “There is no reason for resentment over not receiving the MLC seat,” he added. Under the constitutional provisions, a person who becomes a minister without being a member of either house (legislative assembly or legislative council) must secure membership within six months. Prakash is currently not a member of either House, yet he holds a ministerial post. After taking the oath as a minister in BJP-led NDA government on May 7, Prakash could have met the constitutional provision requiring state legislature membership only through the MLC election. Sources claimed that the BJP had conditioned its support on Prakash contesting the MLC election under the BJP's symbol. However, Kushwaha was unwilling to have his son contest the polls on the BJP symbol. There is also speculation that BJP was exerting pressure on Kushwaha to merge his party with BJP. Meanwhile, popular Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh, Sanjay Mayukh, Anil Kumar Thakur and Sheela Pandhi from the BJP, along with Nishant Kumar, Bharti Mehta, Shivrani Devi Prajapati and Lalan Prasad (the JD(U) candidate for the by-poll seat, filed their nomination papers. From LJP (RV), Ashraf Ansari filed his nomination paper. From the INDIA bloc, RJD's incumbent MLC Sunil Kumar Singh filed his papers. On the other hand, senior RJD leader and former minister Shivchandra Ram resigned from the post of the national president of RJD's SC-ST cell after he was denied an MLC seat.

BJP Files Nominations for Four Rajya Sabha Seats in Gujarat

BJP Files Nominations for Four Rajya Sabha Seats in Gujarat

Four candidates of the BJP filed their nominations on Monday for the election to four Rajya Sabha (RS) seats in the state. June 8 was the final date for filing nomination papers and with only four nominations, the ruling party is likely to sweep the elections uncontested. The election results are likely to be announced on June 11 after scrutiny of the nomination forms and withdrawal of the forms, if any. The four BJP candidates – Raju Shukla, Mukesh Rathva, Mansinh Parmar and Jitendra Kanzariya – filed their nomination papers in the presence of senior party leaders, including Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel , Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi, state party president Jagdish Vishwakarma and state organising secretary Ratnakar. In the 182-member Gujarat Assembly, the BJP has a massive majority of 161 members. The main Opposition, Congress, has only 12 members followed by the Aam Aadmi Party with five seats. A senior election official said later on Monday, “Only four BJP candidates have filed nominations. The forms will be scrutinised on June 9. The last date to withdraw nominations is June 11. After that, a formal announcement on the election results will be made.” Elections for the four seats of the upper house are being held as the six-year term of four Rajya Sabha MPs – Rambhai Mokariya, Narhari Amin, Ramilaben Bara and Shaktisinh Gohil – are ending on June 21. Gohil is a Congress leader and the three others are from the BJP. Gujarat has a total of 11 seats in the RS and in the event of BJP winning the four seats, the Congress’s representation in the upper house from Gujarat will be reduced to zero for the first time in history. Vishwakarma and senior minister Jitu Vaghani addressed mediapersons later on Monday. Vishwakarma, as per an official release from the BJP, said, “With the filing of nomination forms today, for the first time in the history of Gujarat, Bharatiya Janata Party members are going to establish a new record by being appointed to all 11 Rajya Sabha seats, an event that will be inscribed in golden letters in the pages of history.” “As a result of the public’s overwhelming support for the BJP, the Gujarat Congress has been limited to just 12 MLAs, making Gujarat ‘Congress-free’ in the context of Rajya Sabha members,” he added. Quoting Vaghani, the release said, “In Prime Minister Narendra Bhai Modi’s home state of Gujarat, the public has elected BJP representatives with such an emphatic majority that today, the Congress is not even in a position to file nomination forms for the Rajya Sabha.” He added, “The Congress, which frequently attacks the BJP, now needs to engage in serious self-introspection. Just as a fish writhes when out of water, the Congress is floundering without power.”
